The INDI alliance on Saturday held a meeting here and expressed confidence that the coalition is comfortably winning more than 295 seats and forming the next people-friendly government at the Centre.
Addressing the media after the meeting, that lasted more than two hours, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “The INDIA Bloc is winning more than 295 seats. The number of seats may increase but won’t be less than 295. This is our analysis.”
He said this was also the analysis of all the parties of INDI alliance who had given the same data and there was no change in it.
“This is not our survey but of the public. The public had directly told us and the information that our leaders have gathered from them and we are giving the data based on that information. This is the original information from the public that we are telling you,” Kharge said.
He said all the INDIA parties unanimously accepted that all the workers have been instructed not to leave the counting centres till the counting is over and only leave after collecting the certificates.
He said the alliance also decided to approach the Election Commission and whatever problems the leaders have regarding the counting process would be put in front of the commission. For this they have sought appointment for Sunday.
The meeting was held at the official residence of Mallikarjun Kharge here.
Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not attend the meeting citing the final phase of Lok Sabha election and Cyclone Remal that hit the state as reason.
Notably, a couple of days back, Kharge while addressing a press conference had termed the INDIA Block meeting on June 1 as “informal” and said the coalition would only review about the 17 C collection and counting day preparation.
Besides Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Chairperson, Congress Parliamentary Party Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and KC Venugopal, other INDIA Bloc leaders present in the meeting were Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Pawar and Jitendra Awhad from NCP, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha, DMK’s TR Balu, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, Kalpana Soren, former J&K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, CPI’s D Raja, CPIM’s Sitaram Yechury, Anil Desai of Shiv Sena (UBT), Dipankar Bhattacharya from CPI(ML) and Mukesh Sahani from VIP.
