Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi today claimed that the UAE “blocked” a joint statement by BRICS nations on the situation in West Asia due to its ties with Israel.
Araghchi did not offer details on what the BRICS statement was going to be, and what exactly was the content the UAE opposed, but without referring to it by name said, “The final statement by the BRICS ministerial meeting was blocked — or some parts of that were blocked — by a member State that has its own special relations with Israel, and this is very unfortunate.”
BRICS member states include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, the UAE and Indonesia.
“We have no difficulty with that certain country. They have not been our target in the current war. We only hit American military bases and American military installations, which are unfortunately on their soil,” Araghchi told reporters while attending the BRICS foreign ministers’ summit in India.
“The only reason they stopped the final statement was their support to Israel and the United States in their aggression against Iran, which is very, very unfortunate,” he added.
“I hope by the time that we come for the [next] summit, they come to a good understanding that Iran is a neighbour. We have to live with each other. We have lived for centuries, and we have to live for centuries to come,” Araghchi stated, in a veiled and ominous threat against Emirates, as Tehran and Abu Dhabi’s relations continue to sour.
The two-day long summit in New Delhi ended without a joint statement on the deteriorating situation in West Asia due to differing views of member states on the situation.
