Iranian attack damages critical US Radar on airbase in Saudi Arabia: Reports

A US radar AN/TPY-2, which is a critical part of the THAAD missile interception system, has been damaged as a result of an Iranian attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, the CNN broadcaster reported, citing satellite images.

The radar, which is split between several movable trailers at the Prince Sultan base, is currently in the open. The antenna seems burnt with a large chunk missing.

According to the 2025 budget of the US Missile Defense Agency, an AN/TPY-2 costs $136 million.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East, including in Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
