4 Jaish Militants Killed In South Kashmir Gunfight

Srinagar: Four Jaish militants have been killed in an encounter between militants and security forces in Hanjin payeen area of Rajpora village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday morning.

A joint team of army’s 44RR, 182, 183 CRPF and SOG launched cordon and search operation in Hajin Payeen after having credible input about presence of militants in area, Official told Valley Media Service.

As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight.

In the ensuing encounter, four militants were killed and the bodies were recovered from the site of encounter. Their identities and affiliations are being ascertained, police spokesman said VMS.

“Four militants were killed in an operation in Hanjin payeen area of Rajpora in Pulwama district of South Kashmir,” Srinagar-based defence spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia told Valley Media Service.

He said weapons and other war-like stores were recovered from the operation site, he added.

Militants killed in an encounter was affiliated with Jaish e Mohammad outfit and identified as Muzamil Ahmad from Rohmoo Pulwama, Muzamil Ahmad from Prichoo Pulwama, Waseem Ahmad from Tiken Pulwama and Foreigner, sources told VMS.

Meanwhile, intense clashes erupted between the protesters and the government forces near the site of a gunfight.

Reports said that the residents, especially youth, came out of their houses and pelted the forces with stones as soon as the news of gunfight spread in the area.

They said the forces responded by firing tear gas at the protesters.

Ten were hit by pellets and they were being treated at the facility while one with head injury, most probably caused by a stone, was referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for further treatment, sources said.

In wake of encounter authorities have suspended Internet services in Pulwama district. (VMS)
