Four accused have been convicted and sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment in an NDPS case registered in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 on each convict.

The judgement was announced by the Court of the Principal Sessions Judge Kulgam on January 23, 2025 followed by a quantum of punishment on February 8, police said on Tuesday.
The accused persons were convicted for the offences under section 8/20, 8/22 read with sec 29 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act in case FIR No 21/2021 of police station Yaripora, Kulgam.
The accused were arrested on April 26, 2021 during checking by the police party of police post Frisal at Kharpora near playground and contraband recovery consists of 100 ML of 36 bottles without label and six bottles with label Cocax-Dx and two polythene bags, containing 130 grams of Charas was recovered from their possession.
The prosecution presented multiple witnesses and multiple documents to prove the charges against the accused.
The court, after careful consideration of the evidence, found the accused guilty under Section 8/20, 8/22 of the NDPS Act and sentenced them to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,00,000/- each.
This successful conviction demonstrates the commitment of Kulgam police to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety and serves as a strong message against drug peddling and its propagators and reinforces the resolve to maintain a drug-free society.
