The Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau today arrested one revenue official here in bribery case, said an official spokesperson today.
He said a complaint alleged that a revenue official (patwari), Chuni Lal, of Patwar Halqa Dansal, demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for providing the demarcation report.
The accused, Chuni Lal, demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant for providing the demarcation report.
After negotiation, Lal reportedly agreed to receive Rs 75,000 and demanded first installment of Rs 25,000.
However, the complainant could arrange only Rs 20,000. After being forced to pay that much, he approached the ACB for taking legal action against the accused. On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which corroborated the bribe demand by the public servant. A case was registered at police station ACB Jammu and investigation taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team headed by a gazetted rank officer was constituted. The team caught the public servant red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was arrested by the ACB team following due process of law, the spokesperson added.
Searches were also conducted in the office and in-laws’ house of the accused in the presence of witnesses and magistrates. Further investigation is ongoing.
