JK Cong chief Pays Tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru

Srinagar: Paying glowing tributes to First Prime Minister of Independent India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, State Congress chief G.A. Mir said that Pt Ji was one of the foremost leaders of Indian freedom struggle.

“He was favorite disciple of Mahatama Gandhi and later on went on to become First Prime Minister of India,” he said in a statement.

Mir described Jawaharlal Nehru a revolutionary leader with a great vision and political wisdom, who worked as General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee in 1928-29. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and Subash Chandra Bose during Congress Annual session under President Motilal Nehru backed a call for full political independence, PCC Chief said in a statement to KNS.

Nehru  got elected as President of the Congress Party in 1929 in the session held in Lahore and during that session a resolution demanding India’s Independence was  passed and on January 26,1930 in Lahore, Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled free India’s flag, PCC Chief said.

He added that Nehru played a key role in building modern India. He set up a Planning Commission, encouraged development of Science and Technology and launched three successive five year plans.  His policies led to a sizeable growth in agriculture and industrial production. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru also played a major role in developing independent India’s foreign policy he said.

PCC Chief said Nehru became the first Prime Minister of Independent India and effectively coped with the formidable challenges of those times and led the Nation to the path of progress and prosperity, he said. (KNS)
