A least a dozen shops were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in the main market of Boniyar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, officials said.
Fire and Emergency services officials said that fire broke out in a shop in a two storey shopping complex at the main Boniyar market and it engulfed to other shops causing extensive damage to about a dozen shops and a few godowns.
Fire tenders were rushed from nearby fire stations of the district headquarters to douse the leaping flames.
The Army stationed in the Boniyar area also pressed into service fire extinguishers and fire fighting equipment to control the fire and to prevent any loss of life.
The cause of the fire is stated to be due to an electric short circuit, the officials said and added no one was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, a Madrassa Khawaja Gareeb Nawaz was also gutted in a massive fire incident that broke out at Gunpana Khansahib in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been caused due to a short circuit.
No one was injured in the incident, the officials said.
