J&K Police conducts mock drill at Nunwan base Camp ahead of Amarnath Yatra

J&K Police in Anantnag district, along with Central Armed Police Forces and other stakeholder agencies, on Friday conducted a mock drill at Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam to review security preparedness and emergency response mechanisms ahead of the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra.

The Yatra to the cave shrine in the Himalayas of south Kashmir will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28.

A police spokesman said the exercise was aimed at testing the preparedness, coordination and response capabilities of various security and emergency response agencies in dealing with potential contingencies during the Yatra.

The mock drill simulated different emergency scenarios, enabling participating agencies to assess their operational readiness and refine response mechanisms.

Personnel from Anantnag Police, CAPF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department, and other concerned agencies actively participated in the exercise. The drill focused on swift response, effective communication, evacuation procedures, crowd management, and inter-agency coordination, police said.

Senior officers monitored the exercise and reviewed the performance of the participating teams. Necessary instructions were issued to further strengthen preparedness and ensure seamless coordination among all agencies deployed for the Yatra.

Meanwhile, Police in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir convened a comprehensive coordination meeting with Nodal Officers of CAPF to review preparedness and strengthen inter-agency coordination for the smooth, safe and successful conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

The meeting was chaired by SSP Ganderbal Sudhanshu Dhama.

Police said the meeting focused on ensuring seamless coordination among all security and allied agencies deployed for the Yatra. Detailed discussions were held regarding security arrangements, deployment plans, traffic management, emergency response mechanisms, communication systems, and facilitation measures for pilgrims.

SSP Ganderbal emphasized the need to ensure the availability of all essential facilities at Baltal Base Camp and other camping locations, including accommodation, sanitation, medical assistance, drinking water, power supply, and other logistical requirements for the convenience and welfare of the yatris.

The officers also reviewed contingency plans and stressed the importance of maintaining a high level of preparedness, vigilance, and coordination at all levels to effectively address any emergent situation during the Yatra period.
