J&K police officer allegedly kills wife, shoots self in Kupwara

A police sub-inspector allegedly shot dead his wife and later turned the service weapon on himself inside as police installation in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir last night, officials said.


The accused officer, identified as probationary sub inspector Deep Singh Chib, allegedly opened fire on his wife, Bhawna Jamwal, at their official residence inside the camp at Kandi Kupwara around 11:30 pm, causing her instant death on the spot.


After the incident, the officer allegedly shot himself with the same service weapon, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment, where he is undergoing treatment.


Police said the body of the deceased woman has been taken into custody for medico-legal formalities and post-mortem examination.


A case has been registered at Police Station Kupwara, and investigation initiated.
