J&K to host Kashmir travel mart to boost tourism

In a major push to boost the tourism sector, the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department will host the Kashmir Travel Mart-2026 next month, bringing together around 250 stakeholders from over 20 states across the country in an effort to strengthen industry linkages and position Kashmir as a premier global travel destination.

The two day event would be held on April 14–15 at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) located on the picturesque banks of the Dal Lake.

The office of J&K Chief Minister in a post on X said the event will highlight the region’s immense tourism potential.

“J&K Tourism is set to host the Kashmir Travel Mart-2026 on 14–15 April, bringing together around 250 stakeholders from over 20 States across the country. The event will highlight the region’s immense tourism potential through craft safaris, curated destination tours, and B2B (Business-to-business) engagements, offering stakeholders a rich and immersive experience of Kashmir’s culture, heritage, and warm hospitality,” J&K CM said.

“A significant initiative aimed at strengthening tourism linkages and further positioning Kashmir as a premier global travel destination,” he added.

Officials said the travel mart assumes added significance in the backdrop of last year’s terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, in which 25 tourists and a local tour guide were killed.

The incident dealt a severe blow to the tourism sector, triggering widespread cancellations and a sharp decline in visitor footfall. In its aftermath, several tourist destinations across Kashmir were closed as a precautionary measure, with many reopening gradually in a phased manner.
