Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik Saturday strongly condemned the “barbarism let loose” against the people of Kashmir by government forces.
The leadership in a statement issued to GNS said, “The gruesome killing of civilians, Ishfaq Ahmad, a carpenter by profession who was shot dead on spot on mere suspicion of passing by a bunker, and young Muskan Jan, pumped with bullets in her abdomen during a protest, wrings at our hearts and deeply grieves the nation”.
It is extremely sad that GoI has no regret in allowing such “inhumanity” to continue by giving unbridled powers to its forces to kill innocent people day in and out.
“With these two murders, this year alone, more than 400 Kashmiris have been killed. It clearly reflects that New Delhi believes in a policy of military might to suppress Kashmiris and their aspirations,” JRL said.
JRL appealed people to hold a candlelight vigil and torch processions on November 25, Sunday, after Maghrib prayers against the ongoing killing spree in Kashmir.
The leadership said that the policy of targeting pro-freedom leadership “by the state” continues, adding that the killing of TeH leader Mir Hafizullah is a serious assault. Such tactics will have no bearing either on the people’s movement or leadership’s resolve, it said.
The JRL said the incarcerated leaders and activists including Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori, Mushtaq ul Islam, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Basharat Ahmad Mir, Lateef ul Islam, Imtiyaz Ahmed Mir, Farooq Ahmed Bhat, Bashir Ahmed Qureshi, Bashir Ahmed Dar, Muhammad Shafi Dar, Khursheed Ahmed Parray, Firdious Ahmed Parray, Shakeel Ahmed Thokar and dozens of many others have been shifted to Haryana prison in blatant violation of the Supreme Court of India ruling.
The leadership said that these are aimed at psychologically torturing Kashmiri prisoners, and their families to lodge them thousands of miles away from their home state.
“We condemn any killing, the arrest of two women on mere suspicion in connection with the killing of two BJP leaders in Kishtwar,” JRL said and termed it “authoritarian”.
The leadership also expressed serious concern over the “mounting pressure on the Muslim community” in Kishtwar after the killing of two BJP leaders.
While demanding the immediate release of two women arrested in Kishtwar, JRL said the resistance leadership would never favour murder of a person just for his political or ideological belief but the way the Muslims of Kishtwar belt are being harassed is no way to catch culprits. (GNS)
