Calling for larger public participation, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday appealed to every citizen to collectively join the fight against drug abuse to make Jammu and Kashmir a drug free region.
“Nasha Mukt Abhiyan (NMA) campaign is not of a single person but every citizen must collectively participate in it,” LG Sinha said here in a video message.
Issuing a stern warning to those involved into the drug trade, Sinha said, “our youth are being deliberately targeted and collective action from all sections of society is a need of the hour to secure their future.”
He said that Jammu and Kashmir is at a critical juncture and warned of a larger conspiracy aimed at pushing the youth towards drugs.
“In 2020, ‘Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan’ was started under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and continuous efforts have been made since then to make Jammu and Kashmir drugs free,” said Sinha.
The Lieutenant Governor stated that last year in 2025, a major ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ campaign was launched under which police and security forces took stern action against the drug peddlers and mafia, adding, “it has been felt that drugs are still being used against the youth.”
Appealing further to the civil society, LG Sinha announced that a 100-day programme has been made to launch an aggressive fight against the menace, which will be commencing on April 11 from Jammu’s Maulana Azad Stadium.
Sinha will also participate in the ‘padyatra’ along with leaders from various political parties, educators, sportspersons and social workers and also take a resolution against drugs and begin the campaign.
“This is not just a campaign but a purposeful mission to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free and to take effective action against drug traffickers,” he added and said that he will also try to visit every district to encourage participation.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday also reviewed the preparedness for the 100-day intensive campaign under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’.
The campaign, aimed at eradicating drug abuse from the union Territory, will be marked by a series of high-impact awareness programs.
The Lieutenant Governor will flag off a mega “Padyatra” here from Maulana Azad Stadium followed by a similar large-scale launch in Srinagar during the first week of May.
“The influx of drugs to the UT is part of a larger international conspiracy to jeopardize the future of the youth of Jammu Kashmir. Every section of the society must join this fight against drug menace”, the Lieutenant Governor said.
‘Don’t Touch the Innocent and Don’t Spare the Culprit’ is our policy. We must identify the real victims of drug abuse and make committed efforts for their rehabilitation,” the Lieutenant Governor had said.
The meeting also discussed the series of activities planned and department-wise activity calendar prepared for the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.
He also called for integration of public suggestions along with the feedback mechanism to make this campaign more impactful.
Common public should also be encouraged to report the drug abuse cases, he said.
