The vital Awantipora-Pulwama road in south Kashmir is in a dilapidated condition with locals and transporters demanding its macadamisation.

Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the vital road was macadamised years ago and is now lying in very pathetic condition.

“The road is giving a tough time to the commuters,” Showkat Ahmad, a resident of Padgampora, Pulwama, said, adding that this is the main road that connects Tral and Awantipora sub-districts with the district headquarters, Pulwama.

The locals said it usually takes around 30 minutes from Awantipora to reach district headquarter, but due to the bad condition of the road, it takes more than one hour.

The school-going children, elderly and patients are the worst sufferers, they said, adding, “We have time and again requested the authorities to repair and macadamise this vital road but to no avail. We once again urge the authorities to take cognisance of it at the earliest.”
