A 65-year-old man was battered to death by a youth during a theft attempt in Loni Katra area of Barabanki district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Saturday.
Police sources said that Iqbal Narain Jaiswal, a resident of Bhilwal town, lived alone in a cabin and used to offer prayers at a nearby temple.
“On Friday night around 3 am Munnal Nigam, who lives in front of Jaiswal’s cabin called him, but the elderly man did not respond,” he said.
Sources said that when Munna went to the cabin of Jaiswal he found him lying in the pool of blood.
“In between Rashid, a resident of the same village, came out of the cabin and attempted to flee, but was caught by the local resident,” they said.
Sources said that Jaiswal was first taken to the community health center from where he was referred to King George Medical University (KGMU) Lucknow.
“Jaiswal died while being taken to Lucknow. Rashid has been arrested by the police and a case of murder has been lodged against him,” he said.
