The Meteorological Department has forecast a three-day spell of cloudy weather, accompanied by rain and snowfall across Kashmir, beginning Tuesday.
According to the MeT, December 30 is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light rain or snowfall at scattered places across the Valley.
On December 31 and January 1, weather conditions are likely to turn more active, with generally cloudy skies and the possibility of light rain or snow at many places. The department said that a few middle and higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir may receive moderate snowfall during this period.
The weather is expected to improve slightly on January 2, with partly cloudy conditions and light snowfall over isolated higher reaches, MeT said.
Meanwhile, the night temperatures dropped once again across Kashmir, with most places recording sub-zero minimums.
According to the MeT, the tourist resort of Sonamarg in central Kashmir emerged as the coldest place, recording a minimum temperature of –5.8°C, down from –4.7°C the previous night.
Another hill resort Pahalgam in south Kashmir also witnessed a sharp dip, settling at –4.8°C, compared to –1.6°C earlier. Ski resort of Gulmarg, however, recorded a slight rise in minimum temperature at –4.2°C, compared to –4.5°C the previous night, though conditions remained bitterly cold.
The summer capital Srinagar recorded –2.6°C, a noticeable fall from 0.2°C a night earlier. Similar trends were observed elsewhere, with Qazigund at –2.8°C, Kupwara at –3.8°C, Pulwama at –4.3°C, and Shopian at –4.7°C.
