Mirwaiz among world’s top 10 Muslim leaders

Srinagar, Oct 03 (KNS): Chairman Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has figured at number nine in the list of ‘Top-10 Muslim Leaders’ and also made it to the list of 500 most-influential and most-famous Muslims in the world for the second year running.

 

According to a statement issued to KNS, the Mirwaiz, who besides being the Chairman of the Hurriyat (M) is also the topmost religious leader in Jammu Kashmir, figures at number nine in the list of ‘Top-10 Muslim Leaders’ in the field of politics in the Islamic world prepared by the prestigious Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (RISSC), Jordon.

 

Besides, for the second year running, he also figures in the list of the 500 most-influential Muslims in the world.

 

The RISSC, Jordon has categorized the 500 most-influential Muslim personalities into 13 groups of influence including Scholars, Politicians, Administrators of Religious Affairs, Preachers and Spiritual Guides, Philanthropists and people involved in Charity, Development, Social Issues, Business, Science and Technology, Arts and Culture, Media, Celebrities and Sports Stars.

 

The report ‘The Muslim 500’ has included only one Kashmiri in the list of the world’s most-influential Muslims.

 

The prestigious RISSC, Jordon included Mirwaiz, the founder of APHC and its chairman, the chief of the Jammu Kashmir Awami Majlis-e-Amal and the biggest religious leader of Kashmir in the list for representing the real aspirations of the people of Kashmir and for rendering his selfless services in the political, social and religious fields.

 

The report states that Mirwaiz Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq had to assume the mantle of the Mirwaiz of Kashmir at a young age of 17 after his father, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, was martyred on May 21, 1990.

 

RISCC, Jordon report also states that Mirwaiz Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq besides taking over the as the Mirwaiz of Kashmir also assumed the leadership responsibilities by founding APHC and dispatching his duties by taking over as the Chairman of the amalgam at the age of 20.

 

The report states that the Mirwaiz represented the oppressed Kashmiri people at several international platforms including the United Nations Organisation (UNO), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and European Union (EU), besides highlighting their aspirations at New Delhi, Islamabad and various other international platforms.

 

The RISCC, Jordon report states that the Mirwaiz continues to dispatch his duties toward the people of Kashmir that he is representing both at the political level as well as the social and religious level.

 

The report has stated that the Mirwaiz has emerged as a visionary leader in South Asia who has tried to foster better relations between India and Pakistan by calling for the resolution of the long-standing Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

 

The RISSC, Jordon is organizing an award function to felicitate the top Muslim leadership and most-influential Muslims and the Mirwaiz is also being invited to attend the function in Jordon.

 

The top-10 personalities in the list of 500 influential Muslims included the names of King Abdullah II, Professor Dr Sheikh Ahmad Muhammad Al-Tayyeb, the Grand Sheikh of the Al-Azhar University, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Ayatollah Hajj Sayyid Ali Khamenei, King Muhammed VI, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, General Al-Sheikh Mohammed, Recep Tayyip, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hussein Sistani and Hajji Muhammed Abdul-Wahhab Amir of Tablighi Jamaat, Pakistan.

 

Other prominent personalities from South Asia include Dr. Zakir Naik, Imran Khan and Malala Yousufzai. (KNS)
