Kashmir Chief Cleric and Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that he was put under house arrest and barred from delivering the sermon at the historic Jamia Mosque.
“As I was about to leave for Jama Masjid for the Friday sermon and prayers, I have been verbally informed that I am under house arrest today and won’t be allowed to go to Jama Masjid”, Mirwaiz wrote on X ( formerly Twitter) on Friday.
” Is it related to the 32nd anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition today”, he further said adding, “And the wave of Masjid and Shrine survey’s that we raised our voice against? Anyone’s guess”.
Mirwaiz also posted picture of policemen outside his residence.
There was no official word on his house arrest from the police or local authorities.
