The night chill persisted in the Kashmir Valley, though there was a slight improvement as Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -5.5?C on Monday, officials reported.
This was 4.6?C below the average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecast generally dry weather till January 29.
There is a possibility of fresh spells of light rain/snow at isolated places during January 29 night and January 30 and 31. Overall, there is nothing significant till the end of January.
On February 1 to 3 the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy with the possibility of light rain/Snow at isolated higher reaches.
Another spell of light rain and snow at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir likely on February 4 and 5, it said.
The MeT office said that there is a possibility of a rise in Minimum temperature by 2-4?C at many places from January 29 onwards.
The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at Pahalgam in south Kashmir improved marginally and recorded at a low of -6.4?C against the -7.0?C the previous night. This was -0.9?C below normal for the tourist spot.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir also improved and settled at -5.2?C against the -5.8?C on Sunday.
Qazigund on Srinagar Jammu national highway had a low of -4.0?C, Kokernag -1.8?C and the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded a low of 4-3?C, the MeT office said.
The 40-day-long harshest part of the winter “Chillia Kalan” will end on January 30 .
