Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti expressed concern over reports that the local administration is pressuring non-local laborers to leave the valley following a recent terror attack in Ganderbal district.
The attack, which occurred Sunday evening at a workers’ camp near the tourist resort of Sonamarg on the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway, claimed the lives of seven employees of an infrastructure firm, including a local Kashmiri doctor. Five other workers were also injured.
In a post on X, Mufti said that leaving of non-local workers will send a bad message to the country.
“After the barbaric attack at Sonamarg there are reports that the local admin is pressurising non local labourers to leave the valley immediately. While I understand their obvious sense of panic but asking them to leave in this manner is not a solution. Will only create more difficulties & sends a very bad message to the country,” Mufti said in a post on X.
” J&K recently witnessed peaceful terror free elections & this knee jerk reaction will only prove otherwise. Might also cause outrage against Kashmiris working & studying in other states. Request Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah & LG @manojsinha_ji to intervene & at least give them enough time,” she added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the family of slain Dr Shahnawaz Ahmed Dar in Budgam who was one of the seven people killed in the attack.
