PDP, PC announce candidates for 2nd and 3rd phase of J&K Assembly polls

Ahead of notification for the second phase of Assembly polls, Kashmir’s mainstream parties PDP and Peoples Conference have released the list of candidates here on Wednesday.

The two parties released the list of candidates for the third phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election.

PDP, headed by Mehbooba Mufti released the list of constituency incharges for 17 assembly segments. The constitutency in-charges would contest from these seats.

As per the PDP statement, Bashir Ahmad Mir has been named as the party candidate from Ganderbal from where National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah will be contesting.

A day earlier NC announced that Omar will be contesting from Ganderbal. Omar took a U turn and broke his vow not to contest elections until the restoration of statehood.

PDP said that Khursheed Alam, who returned to party fold recently, has been appointed in-charge for Eidgah constituency.

Youth leader Sheikh Gowher Ali who joined the party only today has been named as constituency in-charges of Zadibal. Mohammad Iqbal Trumboo is the constituency in-charge for Chanapora in Srinagar district.

In Kupwara district, former Minister Abdul Haq Khan, who recently rejoined the party, has been appointed in-charge for Lolab.

Another former Minister Basharat Bukhari has been named constituency in-charge for Wagoora Kreeri. Javaid Iqbal Ganaie will be the constituency in-charges for Pattan in Baramulla district.

Shia leader Aga Syed Munatzir Mehdi has been named constituency in-charge for Budgam. Munatzir Mehdi is son of a senior Hurriyat leader Aga Syed Hassan Almosvi.

Journalist Syed Tajamul Islam, who joined the PDP on Wednesday will be the party candidate from Bandipora constituency.

The party said Advocate Javid Choudhary will contest from Surenkote, Mahroof Khan from Mendhar, Farooq Inqilabi for Gulabgarh, Syed Majid Shah for Kalakote-Sunderbani, Advocate Haq Nawaz from Nowshera, Master Tasaduq Hussain from Rajouri, Advocate Guftar Ahmed Choudhary from Budhal and Advocate Qamar Hussain Choudhary fr omThannamandi in Jammu region.

In the last Assembly polls in 2014, PDP had won 28 seats and later formed the government with BJP, which had won 25 seats

Meanwhile, the Peoples Conference, headed by Sajad Lone, released its first list of seven candidates for the Assembly election.

The candidates include Abdul Gani Vakil from Rafiabad, Nazir Ahmed Laway from Kulgam, who had filed his nomination papers on Tuesday for the first phase of election, Abid Hussain Ansari from Zadibal, Irfan Matoo from Eidgah, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Chalkoo from Uri, Asif Lone from Baramulla, and Muhammad Hamza Lone from Gurez.

The election in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases — September 18, September 25 and October 1.
