In the Budgam bypoll, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Aga Muntazir is leading after the sixth round of counting.
Officials said Muntazir has so far secured 8690 votes, while his closest rival, National Conference (NC) candidate Aga Mahmood, has polled 6656
A total of 17 candidates are contesting from the Budgam Assembly constituency, which recorded over 50 percent voter turnout during polling on Tuesday.
The by-election was necessitated after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had won both Budgam and Ganderbal seats in last year’s Assembly elections, vacated Budgam to retain Ganderbal. Omar had defeated PDP’s Aga Muntazir in the previous polls.
