National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday asked the people of Kashmir to exercise their franchise ‘rightly’ in the upcoming assembly election to keep Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) away from forming the next government.
“If the people of Kashmir did the mistake and allowed to split the votes, there is a possibility that BJP will succeed in their policy”, Omar said this in Kupwara when asked in an interaction with the Journalists that BJP is claiming to form the next Government in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The people of the Kashmir valley have to use their vote rightly,” the NC Vice President said and added “they voted against me during the Lok Sabha election. But they should have to keep the sentiments to one side and think positively during voting so that BJP could not succeed”.
He said there is no doubt that different parties are in fray to defeat the National Conference. But we hope if the almighty is willing and when the people will come out to vote they will choose the National Conference.
Regarding the release of Awami Itihaad Party Chief and Member Parliament Engineer Rashid, Omar said “I feel sorry that he has been released for just 20 days to campaign for his party in the elections”.
The former Chief Minister said that during the Lok Sabha election, the people were told that if they voted in favour of Engineer Rashid he would be released. But that does not happen. He has been released just for 20 days to gain the votes and later has to go back to Tihar Jail.
“Engineer Rashid could not do his Member of Parliament Job and cannot attend the parliament to raise the issues of the people of his constituency”, he said adding “the people of Baramulla, to some extent, have wasted their votes during the Lok Sabha election”.
Omar said “I am surprised that the BJP never speaks with one language. They are speaking different languages. When a similar bail was given to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, BJP opposed the decision throughout the country. In a similar way, Engineer Rashid was released and BJP welcomed it. Somewhere there is “Dal Mein Kuch Kala” (something black in the lentils).
