Police on Wednesday claimed to have booked two notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and arrested three drug smugglers in Kashmir valley.

The two notorious drug peddlers have been identified as Khursheed Ahmad Bhat a resident of Sopat Devsar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and Abdul Rashid Dar son of Late Ghulam Nabi Dar of Nillow, Kulgam have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.
Both have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.
Police said many cases are registered against both drug peddlers for their involvement in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs, especially to local youth of District Kulgam.
In another case, a police party at a checkpoint established at Hanjiwera Pattan in Baramulla district
intercepted a vehicle driven by one Aijaz Ahmad Gojri alias Ijaz Mughal, a resident of Pattan.
During the search, 120 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Meanwhile, police at a checkpoint established at Mirgund Crossing arrested a drug smuggler identified as Tawseef Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Rambirgarh Srinagar.
During the search, 92 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession, while in the police sub-district of Awantipora, another drug peddler was arrested at Panzgam Hospital Crossing along with 2.1Kgs of contraband Poppy Straw-like substance.
The accused has been identified as Shahbaz Ahmad Dar of Panzgam Awantipora. Both were arrested, police said.
