Police conduct special drive to check SIM card vendors in Budgam to curb misuse

Police today conducted a special drive to inspect SIM card vendors in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir as part of efforts to curb their misuse.

Police teams constituted at Police Station and Police Post levels conducted checks at multiple locations across the district, focusing on KYC (Know Your Customer) compliance, verification of documents during SIM issuance, and ensuring that no SIM is activated without valid identification and address proof.

Police said during the inspections, vendors were sensitized about their crucial role in preventing misuse of communication networks for unlawful activities.

“They were strictly instructed to adhere to KYC norms and warned of strict legal action, including license cancellation and prosecution, in case of any violation or negligence,’ police said.

Police also urged the public in Budgam to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity, fake documentation, or irregularities related to SIM issuance.

Police emphasised that such inspection drives will continue regularly to ensure a secure and accountable communication environment across the district.

Yesterday, a series of similar coordinated operations were conducted in Anantnag, Kulgam, Sopore and Baramulla districts.
