Police Destroy Seized Narcotics in Anantnag, Sopore in Major Anti-Drug Drive

 In a significant step towards combating the drug menace, J&K Police destroyed a large quantity of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in separate disposal proceedings conducted by Anantnag Police and Sopore Police at the Government-approved disposal facility in Lassipora, Pulwama.

The destruction was carried out in compliance with the directions of the competent courts and after obtaining the requisite legal sanctions. The entire process was conducted through incineration under the supervision of the respective District Drug Disposal Committees and designated officers, ensuring complete transparency and strict adherence to the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, the NDPS Rules, 2022, and the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

In Anantnag, Police destroyed over 308 kilograms of contraband substances seized in multiple NDPS cases registered across the district. The destroyed contraband included 33.431 kg of Poppy Straw, 23.829 kg of Charas, 141.653 kg of Bung Boosa, 21.925 kg of Ganja, 4.44 kg of Cannabis Powder and Leaves, 11 grams of Heroin, 7.007 grams of Brown Sugar, and 823 bottles of Codeine Phosphate.

Similarly, Sopore Police destroyed a substantial quantity of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances linked to multiple NDPS cases registered across various police stations in Police District Sopore. The disposal was carried out after due legal approval and in strict compliance with all statutory procedures.

The destruction of these seized narcotics reflects the unwavering commitment of J&K Police to dismantle drug trafficking networks and ensure that seized contraband is disposed of in a lawful, transparent, and timely manner. It also sends a strong message of zero tolerance against drug trafficking and substance abuse while reinforcing sustained efforts to protect society, particularly the youth, from the devastating impact of narcotics.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to building a drug-free society and appealed to the public to continue extending their cooperation by sharing credible information regarding drug peddling and substance abuse, thereby strengthening the collective fight against the narcotics menace. (JKNS)
