Continuing its intensified drive against drug trafficking, Police in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday attached a double-storey residential building worth Rs 32.19 lakh.
Police said the property belongs to a convicted narcotics offender, Abdul Hamid Bhat alias Hamid Puj, a resident of Lalhar Kakapora. The action was taken in connection with FIR No. 42/2018 under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act.
Police said the accused has already been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh by the Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Pulwama.
“During the course of investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, the property was established as being acquired through proceeds of illicit drug trade. Accordingly, the same has been attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985, following due legal formalities. The attachment was carried out on the spot, and the relevant notice affixed in the presence of officials and independent witnesses, Police said.
The action, police said, reflects their zero-tolerance approach towards drug peddling and their resolve to target assets generated through illegal narcotics activities.
