Heavy rain and a sudden hailstorm accompanied by strong winds hit several parts of Srinagar on Monday afternoon, causing damage to vehicles and electric infrastructure, and disrupting normal life.
The storm, which mainly affected the southern parts of the city, uprooted trees and electric poles, leading to power outages in multiple areas. Eyewitnesses reported that a large tree between Batwara and Pandrethan fell on an e-rickshaw, damaging the vehicle and blocking the road.
Authorities acted swiftly, deploying teams and machinery to restore road connectivity and power supply in the affected areas.
Earlier, the Meteorological Department had issued an advisory forecasting light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Kashmir. The advisory also warned of possible flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas, along with strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph in some places.(KINS)
