Reservations are doubtlessly helpful to lift the weaker sections of society, up both in terms of their economic and social standards. Thus in this way reservations are important. And at the same time reservations are not equally but are more severely dangerous for society too.
In some or many of the cases, you’re actually choosing comparatively the worst and incompetent out of the best. In addition, you can’t compromise with the problems of those poor people who’re from the general category and even from weaker sections actually deserving the reservations.
Let me explain you with a genuine real life incident. There are two persons, one my neighbor and another classmate. I don’t feel good to cite the names instead I’ll use codes: X-my neighbor and Y-my classmate. The Y is rich and there are officers in his family, ZEO his father, Doctor one of his brother and another a teacher and obviously, the family has a more than a smart income.
The Y has more than enough income to avail coaching from one of the reputed and costly institutions Akaash, Jammu for classes 11th to JKCET entrance. The X, my neighbour, is comparatively poor and is unable to avail coaching facilities and self study, the only option for him and also somehow he managed to avail coaching for JKCET entrance from KIE Srinagar. Both of them appeared in the entrance examination 2015.The Y secured 93 and the X secured 113 out of the total 180 points. Who do you think deserves the selection? Yes the one with 113 points! But unfortunately, there is not such a case. The Y used the reservation certificate, which he does not deserve. And eventually, the Y with more than a smart income gets the admission for MBBS in one of the reputed medical colleges, GMC Srinagar. And X was not selected for MBBS at all.
Doesn’t it provide an example of choosing comparatively an incompetent out of the pool of best candidates? Is this equality of any kind? This is obviously an instance of extreme discrimination and fair inequality. Not only the inequality, you’re actually depriving the person with excellence for the things he deserves.
I’ve seen people with inconsiderable points getting the admissions in Colleges and Universities. More recently KU-2018,there was a person who obtained an inconsiderable 2 points and another person, my cousin who got 20 out of the total 60 points. Again, who do you think deserves the admission? Again the situation goes against the common sense and norms. The person with 2 points used her reservation certificate, that she does not deserve, and eventually got the admission. She is not residing in that far flung fringe area for which she has been given the reservation certificate. Is this sort of equality?
Let me give you an another brief example, a person with 54 points scored out of 120 got selected in the last recruitment of Laboratory Assistant in J&K education deptt,2017.And a person with 82 was eliminated at the same time. Who do you think was able to provide us the better service? This is clearly injustice to even those receiving the services from them. You’re deliberately by your filthy rules and policies eliminating the best and select embrace comparatively the incompetent for providing the services.
I’ve heard people, with these reservation certificates, rather magic certificates, saying they’re competing with their fellow members. Do you know who actually those fellow members are? They are those poor people who actually have little knowledge about these things because of the lack of avenues and facilities due to the reason that they’re living under the real penury. A person with a smart economic status, residing in Srinagar or any other cities for last 30 years is enjoying both the grand facilities and the fruits of those magic certificates simultaneously. And those who’re actually deserving, the poor fellows, are hardly able to meet their daily needs in the far and fringe rural areas. These genuine poor fellow members have to compete with those urban reservation bearing top people for getting the jobs and the admissions in colleges and universities. Now, what is the fun of reservations? The sole aim of reservations was to lift weaker sections up and out from the poverty. And, what you’re doing? You’re now actually lifting up the strong people with strong incomes by depriving and suppressing those with meager incomes. That’s totally not fair! And thus please review these draconian policies and rules so that no one suffers and weaker sections get more benefits out practically. These reservations are completely: examples of inequalities and discriminations through all of their angles.
Solutions ahead:
The best solution to grapple with this discrimination is to end the reservation based on castes, tribes, and regions. This is like promoting casteism and regionalism and related evils as well. The best way forward to tackle this is to start providing avenues and facilities to those who’re actually and genuinely down and out. This all should be done after proper investigations of their actual incomes and assets.
Note: The article is not made to hurt anyone’s sentiments. The core reservation points and examples have been used to present the reality of the reservation system.
