Sex racket busted in Srinagar, 2 arrested, 6 detained for questioning

J&K police on Monday said they have busted a prostitution racket here and arrested two persons, who were allegedly involved in running the illegal trade.

\\\\Six people including four female sex workers have been detained for questioning.

Police said the racket was being operated from a rented house at Bagh-e-Mehtab area in Srinagar and was busted on the basis of a specific input. The house was owned by Altaf Hussain Afaqi, a resident of Chanapora.

The premises were raided by Chanpora Police station today and the two persons who were running the racket were arrested by police.

The two were identified as Irshad Ahmad Bhat of Pampore and Mohammad Shafi Hajam of Karimabad Pulwama

“On spot further four sex workers and 2 customers- all locals of Srinagar- were also detained for questioning,” a police statement said.

A case under sections of 3,4,8 of Immoral Trafficking Act has been registered at Police station Chanapora.

Police said as the house owner had not done tenant verification before renting out the premises he will also be booked.
