Police in Srinagar arrested two alleged drug peddlers involved in the trafficking of drugs and narcotic substances.
Police also recovered substantial quantities of contraband substances from their possession.
A police statement said that a team of officials from Police Station Parimpora intercepted an Alto vehicle during a naka checking at Barthana Bund in Qamarwari.
The two individuals in the vehicle were identified as Asif Ahmad Sheikh and Arif Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Babapora Barthana.
“During the search, a substantial quantity of contraband substances was recovered from their possession,” the statement said.
A case was subsequently registered against them under Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Parimpora. Both accused were arrested, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized.
Police said the two accused are hard-core drug peddlers engaged in large-scale narcotic trafficking among the youth.
Notably, one of the accused Arif Sheikh, had been previously involved in another drug-related case registered at the same police station.
Police said during the course of investigation, it came to fore that the accused person namely Asif Sheikh had constructed a double-storeyed house at Babapora Barthana from the proceeds of illegal narcotics trade.
The said property was seized under the provisions of section 68 of the NDPS Act, with intimation to the competent authority for further legal action.
