Strong winds disrupt air traffic at Srinagar airport: Nine flights cancelled

Date:

Nine flights were cancelled at Srinagar Airport on Friday due to strong winds triggered by a steep pressure gradient, officials said.

Airport authorities stated that due to the steep pressure gradient- a weather-related issue- winds reached speeds of 17 knots, gusting up to 27 knots. As a result, Srinagar Airport could accommodate only 11 arrivals and 11 departures from 6:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m.

The adverse weather conditions led to the cancellation of nine flights, while two were diverted to alternate airports. Several other flights experienced significant delays.

Strong winds across various parts of Kashmir valley since Thursday evening have caused substantial damage to multiple properties and infrastructure. The severe storm with heavy winds struck various areas including Srinagar overnight, causing significant damage to tin sheds and uprooting trees, blocking roads.
