Sumbal: Flood affected people Tuesday protested in north Kashmir’s Sumbal area against the government for delaying flood relief.

Led by a local social activist Kamam-ud-Din Shilwati, flood victims of Nowgam, Shilwat, Naidkhai, whose compensation is still pending with the government, held a strong protest rally.

The protesters were shouting anti-government slogans for long hours against the delay in compensation.

"We have no hope of compensation from this government,” said Kamam ud Din, adding the government took a month in the process of verification but still compensation has not been paid to the affected.

“During elections, PDP exploited flood victims for votes and power gaining. But now in power, the ruling party has forgot it’s promises made with the people,” the protesters said.

The protesters submitted a memorandum of their demands to Sub District Magistrate Sumbal. (KNS)
