J&K CPI(M) leader and Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday expressed surprise at the security review meeting conveyed by the Lieutenant Governor in which the Chief Minister was not invited.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday conveyed a high-level security review meeting to take stock of the situation after the deadly terror attack at Gagangir in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on October 20 in which seven people were killed by militants.
“It is surprising and unfortunate that in a security review meeting the elected Chief Minister was not invited to participate”, Tarigami told media persons in Kulgam on Thursday.
“Is that happening in our country where there is a constitution known all across the world for its democratic values..should not have happened and the Prime Minister must take notice of it”, the CPI(M) leader asked.
“As far as the security-related issues are concerned, it is the responsibility of the government, the elected representatives, and the administration to take necessary steps like we’re being taken earlier”, Tarigami said and added, “the present elected government can take steps for that and have the complete mandate of the people for that to the restoration of peace”.
Tarigami said the Assembly session has been summoned on November 4 during which Lt Governor Manoj Sinha will address and thereafter the members will reply on that.
In reply to a question, Tarigami said the main issue during the session would be the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah besides the Supreme Court has also assured of it.
Tarigami appealed to the central government to restore the full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any delay so that the people’s issues could be redressed.
He termed the Gagangir incident as “painful” and “shameless”.
“Whosoever did it, the government must set up an inquiry and reach to the culprits to take action against them under the law of the land”. Tarigami said.
