Explosive batting by captain Lorcan Tucker (94 not out), Gareth Delany (56) and George Dockrell (35 not out) followed by a strong bowling performance helped Ireland beat Oman by 96 runs in the 22nd match of the T20 World Cup on Saturday.
Chasing a target of 236, Oman’s batsmen were mostly helpless against the Irish bowling attack, and their team was bundled out for 139 in 18 overs. Aamir Kaleem top-scored for Oman with 50.
Kaleem’s innings included five fours and two sixes.
Hammad Mirza smashed 46 runs off 37 balls, hitting six fours and a six. Sufyan Mahmood was dismissed for 10 while the remaining eight batsmen failed to reach double figures.
For Ireland, Josh Little took three wickets for 16 runs. Matthew Humphreys and Barry McCarthy took two wickets each. George Dockrell dismissed one batsman.
Earlier, Oman won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ireland, batting first, had a poor start, losing four wickets for 64.
Tim Tector (5), Ross Adair (14), Harry Tector (14) and Curtis Campher were all out for 12.
Shakeel Ahmed dismissed three of these batsmen. In such a critical situation, Lorcan Tucker and Gareth Delany steadied the innings, displaying explosive batting and scoring quickly.
There was a partnership of 101 runs for the fifth wicket between the two batsmen.
Shah Faisal broke the partnership in the 17th over by dismissing Gareth Delany, who scored 56 runs in 30 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes.
Ireland posted a massive 235 for five in their allotted 20 overs against Oman. Lorcan Tucker smashed an unbeaten 94 off 51 balls, hitting 10 fours and four sixes.
