Terrorist killed in overnight encounter in J&K's Ganderbal

Security forces shot dead an unidentified terrorist in an overnight encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, the Army said on Wednesday.

According to the Army, the terrorist was killed in the Arahama area of Ganderbal during an operation that was launched on Tuesday evening.

“During the night of 31 March 26, the cordon was tactically reorganised amidst the intermittent firing underway. Own troops effectively retaliated with calibrated response resulting in one terrorist eliminated.

Operation is in progress,” Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said on X.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain was not known immediately.

The Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police had launched a joint operation in the Arahama area on Tuesday evening following specific intelligence inputs.

During the search operation, vigilant troops noticed suspicious movement. When challenged, the suspects opened fire, triggering an encounter.

Sources said that soon after the exchange of fire, the entire area was immediately cordoned off to prevent any escape. Additional reinforcements were rushed to the spot, and senior security officials also reached the area to oversee and monitor the operation.
