On 30 June the annual Hindu pilgrimage Amarnath Yatra will commence. The yatra to the holy cave in South Kashmir will be taking place for the first time after Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi stripped Jammu and Kashmir of all constitutional privileges and bifurcated Ladakh as another Union Territory on August 5, 2019.

Since then the Yatra remained suspended for two consecutive years due to global pandemic of COVID19.  It is, however first time that Yatra is being organized in a new scheme of things when there is no elected government in Jammu and Kashmir and non locals preferably Hindus are targeted by terrorists. This year so far 25  target killings took place so far and mostly thi se targetted were non locals and Hindus.

It is for the first time in two decades that terrorists openly target outsiders in Kashmir which has brought to fire multiple challenges for security agencies and political leadership in Delhi. earlier this month Union Home Minister held high level meeting of all security and intelligence agencies and directed to ensure security of all citizens in Kashmir.
More troops were directed towards Kashmir to guard sensitive installations and persons under threat. In addition of that hundreds of more troops were rushed to Kashmir to enhance security for Amarnaath Yatra.
A fool proof security arrangements have been made and Kashmir police chief Vijay Kumar said that there will be no laxity in providing the security to the pilgrims. This is one of the toughest times when Jammu Kashmir administration is organizing annual pilgrimage.
So the task is very tough and it has to be ensured incident free. If any untoward incident happens, its impact will have far reaching consequences politically as well as economically.
This year so far 6 lakh tourists have visited Kashmir, the highest so far in a decade. It is helping to revive the economy if Kashmir which has dented over the last three years. So strong precautions are required and Yatra mist culminate peacefully.
