Two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants – Naseer Pandit and Waseem Malla – who died in a gunbattle with forces in Shopian district earlier today, were offered a three-volley salute by their associates.
News agency GNS, quoting eye-witnesses, reported that militants appeared in the funerals and offered a “gun salute” to them in full public glare. “The militants arrived thrice and the first group comprising two militants fired 21 rounds in air as a mark of respect to their slain associate,” it reported.
Meanwhile, thousands of people attended the funeral prayers and processions of two top militants at their native villages in Kareemabad of Pulwama and Trenz in Shopian.
Witnesses said that the funerals of the both militants were conducted at least six times due to massive rush of mourners.
“Women showered flower petals on the corpses of the slain duo and groomed them with ‘henna’,” said a witness.(Agencies)
