Train engine catches fire in south Kashmir, passengers safe

Passengers travelling from Baramulla to Banihal had a narrow escape when a fire broke out in the front engine of a DMU train in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said.

The fire broke out in the engine when the train was halted at Qazigund railway station .

“All the passengers on board are safe. The fire broke out in the front engine of the train at Qazigund railway station and immediately fire and emergency services was pressed into service and the flames have been brought under control,” they said.

The officials said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and added that “An investigation will be held.”

The rail traffic has been restored on the Baramulla-Banihal track.
