Jammu: Two persons were injured while some houses were damaged in cross border shelling in Manjakote area of Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district, officials said.
Police officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that on Tuesday late evening hours, ceasefire violation started on LoC in Tarkundi Gali and Balakote forward areas and intense shelling took place for hours together with entire Line of Control spread over ten kilometres in the area got rattled with mortar shelling.
“A mortar shell hit a house, injuring an aged-man and a teenage girl,” the locals said, adding that they informed the police about the injury following a team reached the spot and rescued the duo to Primary Health Center (PHC) Manjakote.
“After first aid at Manjakote, the duo was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Associated Hospital Rajouri where they are undergoing treatment,” officials said.
The duo has been identified as 68-year-old Mohammad Rafiq, son of Ali Haider and a teenage girl Sania Kouser, wife of Mohammad Shabir, both resident of Khorinar Rajdhani village of Manjakote Tehsil.
Meanwhile, some houses also suffered damage in the shelling.
“One of the houses where two persons were injured is badly damaged while the other one received moderate damage,” an officer of district administration said –(KNO)
