Jammu and Kashmir Police have booked a woman under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for her alleged involvement in unlawful and anti-national activities, officials said on Saturday.
They said Baramulla Police executed a detention warrant against Haseena Begum a resident of Sheeri Baramulla, under the PSA. The PSA is a preventive detention law that allows authorities to detain any individual for two years without trial for activities considered a threat to public order or the security of the state.
The detention of the lady was carried out following an order issued by the District Magistrate, Baramulla, based on her involvement in several criminal cases registered across different districts.
“Acting on the warrant, police took the detenue into preventive custody and lodged her in District Jail Bhaderwah,” police said.
Police said that the woman was involved in multiple cases linked to unlawful and anti-national activities. However, they did not disclose details of the cases registered against her.
Baramulla Police said the action was part of its continued efforts to maintain peace and ensure security in the district.
“Strict legal action will continue against individuals found involved in activities posing a threat to public order and security,” the police added.
