Jammu and Kashmir Police have busted an interstate module of the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), arresting five individuals, including two suspected Pakistanis, official sources said on Tuesday.
J&K Police, however, have not issued any formal statement on the operation so far.
According to sources, the breakthrough came after a multi-week operation that led to the arrest of two Pakistani LeT operatives from Punjab’s Malerkotla,
One of the arrested has been identified as Abdullah alias Abu Hureira, a Pakistani operative who had evaded capture for nearly 16 years. The second accused, identified as Osman alias Khubaib, was also on the run for over a decade.
Sources said Huraira had infiltrated into the Kashmir Valley in 2010 and after operating in the Valley for many years went off the radar and set up his base in Punjab.
Following their arrest, security agencies carried out coordinated raids across spanning Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana, recovering incriminating material. Several suspects were questioned.
Three local overground workers from Srinagar were also arrested by J&K Police.
Officials said the network was actively involved in facilitating the movement, shelter, and funding of active militants in J&K. They said Hurraira was responsible for setting up logistical infrastructure and coordinating financial support for operations in the region.
Sources said police are probing both forward and backward linkages of the terror module, with further arrests likely in the coming days.
Further investigation is underway, official sources added.
This is the second interstate terror module which was busted by J&K Police within a gap of six-month gap.
Jammu and Kashmir Police had cracked an inter-state and transnational terror module, linked to at least two banned terrorist organisations – the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed and the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, in November last year. The module was linked to Delhi’s Red Fort terror blast case
