UDAN Scheme: High-level special team to evaluate status of proposed airport at J&K's Kishtwar: Jitendra

union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today said that a five-member high level special team will visit Kishtwar tomorrow to evaluate status of proposed airport in the hilly district.

“A 5-member high-level Special team deputed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt of India and Airport Authority of India (AAI) will reach #Kishtwar tomorrow, on a two day visit to evaluate the status of the proposal for developing airport at Kishtwar under #UDAN scheme,” Dr Singh posted on X.

He further posted, “on return to Delhi, the team will submit its report to the higher authorities, following which, further road map will be charted out accordingly.”

“As a result of PM Narendra Modi’s special priority for far-flung regions, it is gratifying that each of our requests and initiatives for the development of the remote areas has always received a positive response,” Dr Singh, who is Member Parliament Kathua-Udhampur constituency, said in a post.

Notably, Dr Singh had recently told UNI that the air travel will soon become an ease and be like dream coming true for the residents of hilly belts at affordable rates with the completion of proposed Kishtwar and operationalization of Udhampur airports under UDAN Scheme that will not only boost the economic growth but also promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The proposed Kishtwar airport was included in the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) scheme to improve regional connectivity and boost local economies by providing affordable air travel,” said the union Minister. Kishtwar is an “aspirational agricultural district” and airport there would boost the region’s economy, particularly the agricultural economy by helping local saffron cultivators and farmers reach wider markets, he said.

The UDAN Scheme is the government initiative aims to connect smaller cities and towns and it subsidizes a portion of the airfare through viability gap funding, thus making flights more affordable.
