UP: Friday namaz passes off peacefully at Gyanvapi

Varanasi May 27 (UNI) Friday namaz at Gyanvapi passed off peacefully amidst tight security arrangements.

A large number of people assembled in the mosque to offer Friday namaz. It may be noted that the Gyanvapi issue is in the news due to hearing in an application requesting permission for regular worship at Shringar Gauri Sthal inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex.

During the hearing a videography survey of the mosque complex was done on the order of the court. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in and outside the Gyanvapi campus on the orders of the court after claims were made that evidence of the presence of Hindu symbols were found during the survey.

Personnel of security forces were deployed in adequate numbers keeping in view the possibility of huge crowd inside the mosque complex on Friday to offer namaz. During this the CRPF jawans have been deployed near the wazookhana, which has been sealed and the media persons were asked to stay away from the Shringar Gauri Sthal

It may be noted that the wazookhana was sealed on the order of the court after a Shivling-like structure was found there. Alternative arrangement of water was made for wazoo.

In the meantime, chief of Vishwa Vaidik Sanatan Sangh Jitendra Singh lodged a complaint at Chowk police station expressing concern over the Shivling like structure, which is claimed to be a fountain by the Muslim side.
