US Navy jets collide midair during Idaho air show; all four crew eject safely

A military air show near Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho turned into an emergency situation on Sunday after two US Navy EA-18G Growler jets collided midair during a live demonstration.

Two US Navy EA-18G Growler jets crashed while performing on the second day at the Gunfighter Skies Air Show. All four crew members were safely ejected.

”The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m. MDT on the second day of the air show, according to the report. The US Navy said the aircraft were assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron VAQ-129, based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island,” according to an official statement.

Naval Air Forces spokesperson Cmdr. Amelia Umayam told Fox News Digital that all four crew members successfully ejected and were being evaluated by medical personnel following the crash.

Videos are widely circulating on social media that show a pair of fighter jets colliding midair before spinning toward the ground in a fiery crash amid black plumes of smoke.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Mountain Home Air Force Base “Gunfighter Skies” air show organisers said an aircraft incident occurred about two miles northwest of the base, adding that emergency responders were on the scene and an investigation had begun.

The EA-18G Growler is an electronic warfare aircraft derived from the F/A-18 Super Hornet family, used by the US Navy for airborne electronic attack missions.

Col. David R. Gunter, wing commander of the 366th Fighter Wing, which is known as the “Gunfighters” and is housed at the base, said in a statement that “we are incredibly thankful that everyone involved in today’s incident is safe.”

He thanked first responders for their work and guests for their “patience, trust and support.”
