Iran on Thursday strongly condemned the United States for carrying out what it described as “unlawful and criminal attacks”, accusing Washington of violating international law and effectively rendering the April 8 ceasefire “meaningless”.
In a statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said, “The unlawful and criminal attacks carried out by the United States in recent hours constitute not only a blatant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the fundamental principles of international law regarding respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, but have also effectively rendered the ceasefire of April 8, 2026 meaningless.”
The ministry said Iran would work to “neutralize the origin and source of aggressive attacks against Iran” and called on all United Nations member states to oppose what it termed a gross violation of the UN Charter.
It warned that “silence and inaction in the face of the lawlessness and bullying of the US and the Zionist regime will push the world further towards chaos and insecurity.”
In a separate statement, the ministry reiterated that the US strikes had made the ceasefire “practically meaningless”, adding that the attacks constituted “a blatant violation” of the UN Charter.
The statement further said that “the responsibility for the extremely serious consequences of this criminal act lies with the leaders of the United States.”
Meanwhile, amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, three liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers bound for Asia have exited the Strait of Hormuz after travelling with their transponders switched off, according to ship-tracking data from LSEG and Kpler cited by Reuters.
The QatarEnergy-controlled tankers Lebrethah and Rasheeda, carrying cargoes loaded at Ras Laffan, were last seen west of the Strait on June 1 and April 30 respectively before reappearing on tracking systems on June 10.
Lebrethah, which loaded its cargo on May 22, is heading to Pakistan, while Rasheeda, carrying LNG since February 27, is approaching Southeast Asia.
A third LNG tanker, Marigold, managed by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), also reappeared on ship-tracking data on June 10 and is reportedly heading towards India.
Including Lebrethah, Rasheeda and Marigold, a total of 12 LNG cargoes have exited the Strait of Hormuz since the conflict began at the end of February.
Separately, Iranian media released photographs purportedly showing the remains of a US-made precision-guided bomb at the site of a destroyed drinking water reservoir in southern Iran.
Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency published images of a heavily damaged water storage facility and munition fragments that weapons belong to a GBU-39 series precision-guided bomb, manufactured in the United States.
The United States launched strikes against Iran on Tuesday after Iran was blamed to have downed a US helicopter Apache, although the US has not confirmed whether the water facility was hit during those operations.
US Central Command spokesperson Capt. Timothy Hawkins said CENTCOM was aware of reports concerning the incident and was looking into the matter, but declined to answer further questions regarding the water facility.
The incident has drawn attention because water facilities are protected under the Geneva Convention. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had suggested on Truth Social that the United States could target Iran’s water desalination plants, a proposal that reportedly alarmed several US allies in the Gulf.
According to Mehr, Abdul Hamid Hamzehpour, Chief Executive of the Hormozgan Water and Wastewater Company, said: “Two concrete water-storage reservoirs with a combined capacity of 2,500 cubic meters in the Bamani district were struck by missiles and completely taken out of service.”
Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that the reservoirs served at least 20,000 people. Images published by Mehr showed one of the reservoirs with its roof collapsed and debris scattered around the site. Large pipelines connected to the structure indicate it could have stored around half a million litres of water.
