The pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine will remain suspended from tomorrow in view of the weather advisory issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

“In view of the inclement weather advisory issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, Vaishno Devi Yatra shall remain suspended from October 5 to 7 and will resume on October 8,” the Shrine Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board posted on X. “Devotees may stay updated through official channels,” it further posted.

Hustle-bustle returned to Katra town in Reasi district after the suspended pilgrimage resumed on September 17. The yatra was suspended on August 26 due to heavy rain.

As many as 34 people, mostly pilgrims, were killed and several injured after a landslide was triggered on August 26 due to heavy rains near the Indraprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, had also constituted a high-level three-member committee to investigate the causes of the landslide.
