The pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Shrine today remained suspended for the third consecutive day in view of the weather advisory issued by the Indian Meteorological Department.
“In view of the inclement weather advisory issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, the Vaishno Devi Yatra today remained suspended for the third day and will resume tomorrow on October 8,” Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board official said.
“Devotees may stay updated through official channels,” he further said.
However, hustle-bustle returned to Katra town in Reasi district after the suspended pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Shrine earlier resumed on September 17.
The yatra was suspended on August 26 due to heavy rain.
As many 34 people, mostly pilgrims, were killed and several injured after a landslide on August 26 following heavy rains near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, had also constituted a high-level three-member committee to probe the causes of the landslide.
Meanwhile weatherman said that in the past 24 hours, Udhampur received maximum 100.2 mm rainfall follower by Batote 98.2, Doda 86, Bhaderwah 77, Banihal 75.8, Qazigund 70, Kukernag 68.9, Ramban 68.5 and Pahlgam 52.6 mm respectively.
On October 8, the MeT has predicted a brief spell of light rain at few places and generally dry weather from October 9 to 17.
