Workshop on data usage for journalists conducted

Jammu, May 28 (UNI) The Press Club of Jammu, along with Indian School of Business, Bharti School of Public Policy and Indian Data Portal (IDP) jointly organised an awareness workshop on data usage in news stories here at the club premises on Saturday.
The workshop was organised on the topic ‘Using Open Data for Creating and Presenting News Stories.’
Senior Consultant, IDP, Deepti Soni was the key resource person in the workshop and she threw light on data awareness and it’s utilisation by the journalists in framing stories.
“Data based stories are somehow based on facts especially when the figures are provided by the relevant and authentic agency,” said Soni.
She added that data relevance is very important these days as many journalists work on stories having data analysis covering many aspects from different departments.
However, consultant Upendra Singh and former HOD Department of Political Science, University of Jammu, Rekha Choudhary, also spoke on the occasion.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar was the special guest and he appreciated the Press Club of Jammu for organising this workshop for journalists as it spreads awareness regarding responsible and ethical journalism.
President Press Club of Jammu, Sanjeev Pargal, Vice President, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, General Secretary, Dinesh Manhotra were present on the occasion.
Jamwal, later speaking to media said that data availability was already there but it’s utilisation in a right perspective matters a lot.
“I am sure that this workshop will surely aware budding and young journos on data importance in news stories for authentic and reliable journalism,” he added.
Later a question-answer session was organised on which Deepti Soni replied to the queries raised by the journalist fraternity.
