3 army men injured in Kupwara gun battle

Three Army men were injured in a gun battle close to the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said here on Saturday.

The encounter took place a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan and said Indian soldiers will crush terrorism with full force and the enemy will be given a befitting reply.

The latest encounter broke out at the Kumkari area of the Machil sector resulting in injuries to three soldiers.

” Three Army men have been injured and the operation is underway in the area,” officials said, adding that more forces have been rushed to the area to ensure a tight cordon.

This is the fourth encounter in Kupwara in the last fortnight.

In the earlier three encounters six militants suspected to be foreigners and a soldier were killed.

Two days ago the Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi visited forward areas in Kupwara and reviewed the security situation along the LoC
